One of Mott MacDonald’s key strengths is to see a problem from
our customer’s perspective. We have established a range of support
services for the nuclear marker which will enable our customers to
meet their strategic business, technical and operational needs,
such as:
- business cases
- economic appraisals
- socio-economic assessments
- business process reengineering
- asset management
- safety cases
Business cases
We recognise that the business case is an important and
strategic document covering stakeholder management, technical,
risk, value management, planning, funding and commercial knowledge.
Experience is essential to produce a document that clearly
identifies the benefits and justifies the level of investment
needed.
We have the ability to help our customers develop business cases to
inform strategic investment opportunities for key programmes of
work. We are capable of providing formal document that provides
justification for the investment required to deliver identified
business benefits. It includes an initial analysis of the status
quo and the need for improvements, proposed alternative solutions,
assumptions, constraints and a risk-adjusted cost-benefit analysis.
We employ experts in PFI/PPP, economics and finance to help our
customers realise their business ambitions.
Business process reengineering
In a changing and dynamic market such as decommissioning and
clean up, business process reengineering (BPR) will give any
company who embraces it a competitive edge. This will be driven by
the business environment and business strategy and involves the
analysis and redesign of: processes and management systems,
policies, organisational, structures, job definitions, beliefs and
behaviours. Information and Communications Technology (ICT) can be
a key enabler in the BPR process, as it provides new and innovative
design possibilities.
Successful businesses regularly use BPR to continually improve
their performance. However, inefficient business design, poor
financial performance, a need to reduce costs, obsolete working
practices, obsolete technology, competitive pressure, poor customer
satisfaction, poor product/service quality and emerging market
opportunities could also present a strong case for BPR.
Economic appraisals
Infrastructure development relies heaviliy on the economic
appraisal techniques. At Mott MacDonald our skilled risk, design
and value management teams are able to look at projects in a
critical way. Our teams look at the contractual conditions and seek
to transfer risk to those parties able to control it best and
enable those opportunities to deliver projects ahead of budget and
programme.

terms of the life extension of capital plant. We use innovative
approaches backed by many years of experience such as deterministic
engineering techniques, value engineering and specific expert
